Woodbury University invites applications for the position of Director, Office of Disabilities and Accessibilities Services (ODAS). Reporting to the Senior VP, Academic Affairs, the Director, Office of Disabilities and Accessibility Services develops and oversees support services, activities, and programs to assist students with disabilities. The Director, Disabilities and Accessibility Services will work closely with other university departments (i.e. Deans, Health Services, Counseling Services, Faculty, and Human Resources) to assess cases and ensure an accessible environment for students with disabilities.

Key responsibilities of this position include the following: consulting with students, employees and other stakeholders to determine reasonable accommodations; determining needs for additional, related external medical examinations; identifying internal and external resources; facilitating discussions and problem-solving with internal and external stakeholders for accommodation resolutions; utilizing a database to track accommodation requests and usage; and providing recommendations and trainings to the Woodbury community. The Director, Disabilities and Accessibility Services is responsible for coordinating and managing the process for providing accommodations and support services for students with disabilities across all campuses.

This position qualifies university sponsored employee benefit plans and programs (e.g., group health insurance, life insurance, tax deferred annuity plan, annual vacation, sick, and paid holidays), subject to the eligibility requirements and conditions of each plan and program.

Salary/Hourly Range: $61,679 - $80,182 (commensurate with experience & qualifications)

Responsibilities

  • Provide full oversight of the Office of Disabilities and Accessibilities Services (ODAS).
  • Monitor and make recommendations for modifying University processes and policies to ensure compliance with ADA and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 surrounding students with disabilities.
  • Investigate (and oversee the investigation of) complaints of disability-based discrimination, harassment, retaliation, involving students in accordance with University policies. Ensure timely and thorough investigations are performed and oversee effective and efficient management and resolution of complaints.
  • Maintain and update the ODAS content on the University's website including resources and guides.
  • Supervise the part time Disabilities & Accessibilities Support Specialist.
  • Oversee the processes, procedures, documentation, and development of academic adjustment plans with students to provide access and inclusion, adhering to all applicable university, state and federal ADA policies, procedures and protocol.
  • Maintain timely comprehensive notes and records of students with disabilities in the Symplicity Accommodate platform.
  • Partner with individual students, faculty and staff to develop and coordinate access to resources for academic adjustments, as applicable and necessary (ex. note-takes, tutors, interpreters, mentors, audiobooks and more).
  • Partner with and provide assistance to campus stakeholders; Associate Dean of Students/ Student Housing, Department Chairs, Deans, International Student Advisor, Admissions, and the Tutoring Center.
  • Provide on-going professional development workshops for faculty, staff, student tutors and workers around disability issues.
  • Serve as a member of the CARE Team; assist with students of concern as needed.
  • Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities within all university departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, in higher education, special education, educational therapy, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated 4-6 years' experience working with students with disabilities in a post-secondary setting.
    • Minimum of four years managing programming for students with disabilities; strong ability to adapt programming to meet university culture and evolving national trends.
    • Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations for disability accommodations processes and procedures in higher education. Comprehensive understanding of ADA compliance regulations, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act andSection 508 compliance.
    • Comprehensive understanding of how to interpret neuropsychological testing, IEPs, 504 plans, and medical and psychological documentation.
    • Current knowledge, experience, and deep understanding of college student development and the needs of neurodiverse students.
    • Thorough understanding of accommodation request procedures, the interactive process, managing the student narrative, and processing documentation.
    • Demonstrated experience with facilitating mediation and neutralizing bias with a solution-focused mindset; strong communication and advocacy skills; ability to apply ADA law with student needs while collaborating with faculty.
    • Thorough understanding of FERPA; ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive student documentation, University data.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present materials to students, faculty, and parents.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of scenarios with a diverse array of individuals and groups.
    • Ability to analyze complex situations, identify solutions, and take appropriate and timely action to resolve problems with sensitivity and concern for all constituents.
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to function well autonomously.
    • Ability to supervise disability specialist assistant and student workers.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (EXCEL and Word) required.
    • Working knowledge of assistive technology required.

      Physical Requirements:

      • Close vision, hearing/listening, and clear speech.
      • Hand/fingers dexterity to work with computers.
      • Walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
      • Ability to utilize office equipment such as computers and copiers
      • Kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting, squatting, standing, etc.
      • Works with/around and has verbal and face-to-face contact with others.
      • Works indoors in an office environment the majority of the time.
      • Complex reading and writing ability.
