Job Description - Lead Synthetic Chemist (JOBREQ1800088403) Lead Synthetic Chemist Requisition ID : JOBREQ1800088403 Primary Location United States of America-California-Burbank-USA - Burbank R&D Center Organization Aerospace Products Schedule Full-time Job Posting Mar 3, 2023, 5:36:58 PM We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Lead Synthetic Chemist in our Burbank, California location; reporting to the Associate Director of Advanced Technology. As a Lead Synthetic Chemist, you will lead the synthesis, manufacture, and development of in-house polymers for use in coatings, sealants and adhesives. You will be trained and developed into our key Burbank synthesis expert; working alongside our current synthetic chemists. -You will use your creativity, work ethic, and professionalism, to work across different functions within the company. You will be responsible for in-house R&D, production line support, and new resin development, which will lead to patent applications. This role will involve working closely with other business units within the company to support core projects and cross-business unit development. -Key Responsibilities - -Lead the synthesis, manufacture, and development of in-house polymers. -Oversee in-house R&D, manufacturing line support, and new resin development, which will lead to patent applications. -Work closely with other business units within the company to support core projects and cross-business unit development. -Create new polymers from commercially available raw materials. -Understand structure-property relationship of polymers. -Understand surface phenomenon, including adhesion, and how it relates to the coatings/sealants/adhesives adhesion on different surfaces. -Based on needs the business you may be asked to support research efforts related to other materials science projects. -Qualifications -PhD in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry -3 or more years of relevant experience in synthesis and polymer chemistry -In-depth understanding of chemical structures-property relationship -Familiarity with intellectual property protection and patent filing. -Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder to be eligible for this role. -About us: -Here at PPG we make it happen, and we seek candidates of the highest integrity and professionalism who share our values, with the commitment and drive to strive today to do better than yesterday - everyday. -Through leadership in innovation, sustainability and color, PPG helps customers in industrial, transportation, consumer products, and construction markets and aftermarkets to enhance more surfaces in more ways than does any other company..
