Job Description The Aerospace Machinist – 2nd Shift is responsible for all Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders; perform difficult and highly diversified machining operations involving difficult machine and tool setups on work having interrelated dimensions and tolerances and finish requirements. Work from difficult drawings and sketches.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following and all other duties as may be assigned:• Plans sequence of operations, determines cutting tools to be used, method of holding and aligning work, and machine speeds and feeds.• Ability to lay out and locate reference lines, center points and center lines working from detail blueprints or sketches using precision measuring instruments and computing angular and linear dimensions as required.• Sets up most machines to completely and independently perform any operation within its capacity. Centers and fastens work in machine using chuck collet, face or angle plate, also improvises and adapts standard tooling; mounts cutting tools; sets feeds and speeds,• Ability to make all necessary machine adjustments and troubleshoot.• Grinds own tool bits and drills.• Works on unusual and irregular shaped casting, forgings, and parts requiring ingenuity in improvising and adapting standard tooling.• Operates the machine to perform such typical operations as turning, facing, boring, chasing all types of single and multiple external and internal thread with a single tool, turning internal and external tapers, drilling, grooving, reaming and chamfering; turns and bores for any type of machine fit; machine parts involving compound angels to exacting tolerances.• Make temporary tooling as required.• Performs rework, repair and other associated operations in connection with the work described. • Other duties as may be assigned.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED), or three to five years’ experience, or a combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret detail blueprints or sketches. Ability to apply a knowledge of machinability of metals. Knowledge of proper rakes and clearances of tool bits and drills. TYPICAL MATERIALS, TOOLS and EQUIPMENT USED Materials worked on: Ferrous and non-ferrous bar or tube-stock, castings, forgings, and assemblies. Materials worked with: Cutting oils and coolants, emery cloth. Tools used: Machinists hand tools, scales and precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, surface and depth gauges, micrometers, calipers, protractors, go and no go gauges, etc. Equipment Used: Chucks, collets, faceplates and holding fixtures; cutting tools and box and form tools, die heads, taps, mill/lathe machines, drill and reamers.***Volt is an Equal Opportunity Employer***
